Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Nick Rowles-Davies founded Lexolent in 2023 and leads it as Chief Executive. Lexolent is a global legal finance network and legal asset fund manager, bringing together a technology platform, a global referral network and its own litigation fund.
His career in legal finance spans more than thirty years and has taken in senior executive positions at several of the largest funders in the market, across origination, structuring, risk assessment and capital raising. He originated and structured the first corporate portfolio financing the European market had seen. Admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales came in 1994, followed by the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court in the British Virgin Islands in 2009. He is an Accredited Mediator and a Member of the Institute of Arbitrators.
As a practitioner he acted in major music copyright litigation, including Bruce Springsteen v Masquerade Music through to the House of Lords. The artists he represented run from Led Zeppelin to Shania Twain. His reported cases also include competition proceedings before the Competition Appeals Tribunal and the Administrative Court together with a number of significant construction disputes.
He wrote Third Party Litigation Funding, published by Oxford University Press in 2014, which was the first academic treatment of the subject and remains the principal text. A second edition is written and in editing. He contributed to the third edition of Friston on Costs and to The Legal Risk Management Handbook.
He edits Legal Finance Expert and publishes Code on Trial, a weekly newsletter with a quarterly paid issue on artificial intelligence, crypto and digital disputes. Levanter Markets, a markets intelligence title he founded, is the third he edits. Tidemark, which analyses the United Kingdom insolvency regime and publishes the processed data, has him on its advisory board.
The European Institute of Management and Technology awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration in 2024 for services to legal finance. He read Law and Politics at the University of Keele, qualified through the College of Law at Chester and completed the Advanced Management and Leadership programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. A frequent speaker and commentator, he addresses litigation finance, legal services regulation and costs. He is based in Dubai and London.
